The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of $150,000 to Essere Animali to conduct farm investigations and scale up media outreach and corporate campaigning in Italy. Approximately 260 million farmed land animals and 140 million farmed fish are alive in Italy at any time. Essere Animali investigations at farms where fish, pigs, and chickens are raised and slaughtered have generated media coverage in Italy and elsewhere, and we believe these investigations are useful to others working on animal welfare globally. This is a discretionary grant and falls within our focus area of farm animal welfare.
