Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence

The **Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence** ( **CHAI**) is a research center at the [University of California, Berkeley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_California,_Berkeley "University of California, Berkeley") focusing on advanced [artificial intelligence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence "Artificial intelligence") (AI) [safety methods](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AI_control_problem "AI control problem"). The center was founded in 2016 by a group of academics led by [Berkeley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UC_Berkeley "UC Berkeley") computer science professor and AI expert [Stuart J. Russell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_J._Russell "Stuart J.
