We believe that a single person can have a remarkable positive impact by thoughtfully using their time and money to help others. Our grantees encourage people to apply their careers and charitable giving to improve the lives of humans and animals around the world.
Our work primarily supports two strategic areas:
Effective giving: Charities that use evidence-based approaches to address important and neglected causes can use donations very effectively. For example, a few thousand dollars to charities recommended by GiveWell can protect hundreds of children from malaria or provide thousands with vitamin supplements to improve their odds of staying healthy. GiveWell estimates that the funding it directed in 2024 alone will save 74,000 lives .
We support r esearch to find and evaluate cost-effective interventions and charitable organizations, and g roups that raise money to support high-impact causes.
Effective careers: Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person can make — and a career focused on important and neglected problems can achieve much more impact.
We support organizations that provide mentorship, advice, and opportunities to help people from different backgrounds pursue highly impactful careers.
One especially promising path is founding and running new charities in areas where few (if any) exist. One of our grantees, Ambitious Impact , trains talented people to start charities addressing neglected global problems.
