Aligning
Ensuring that AI poses no severe risks and promotes security, sovereignty, and fundamental freedoms.
artificial intelligence
Our focus is on the most powerful AI, including advanced efforts toward autonomous agents, Artificial General Intelligence, or superintelligence.
through better governance .
Decision-makers, policies, strategies, and other checks and balances that guide AI developers.
Who We Are
At The Future Society, we have always looked ahead. We prepare decision-makers for the geopolitical and security disruptions that AI brings.
What motivates us? Our vision is a world where humanity is protected from the gravest risks of powerful AI, as governance prevents catastrophic harms and conflicts, and fosters global security, sovereignty, and human progress.
Our story begins in 2014, when an international group of technology and policy strategists convened roundtables to anticipate what the future could look like, and the role that AI and Artificial General Intelligence would play in it. Long before AI dominated mainstream news headlines, we recognized it as a transformative global challenge calling for national and international governance response. From this point, our mission was clear.
This led to The Future Society’s establishment as a U.S.-registered 501(c)3 in 2016 driven by the idea that AI governance is fundamental for enabling an AI-powered era.
How We Work
The Future Society advises American, European, and other influential decision-makers worldwide. We draw on our analyses and strong networks to provide them with pragmatic guidance. We help governments act for security early, coordinate amidst shifting power dynamics, and navigate technological, catastrophic, and political risks from powerful AI.
Our international team of AI geopolitics, technical, and governance experts help craft the rules, strategies, and agreements that make AI development safer for everyone.
As an independent policy organization, we:
anticipate the varied disruptions from powerful AI through our discerning research;
convene a broad range of AI actors to converge on feasible solutions;
inform decision-makers with actionable plans to respond with confidence, not confusion.
