About Us - Americans for Responsible Innovation Steering AI Policy in the Right Direction Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to policy advocacy in the public interest, focused on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). The organization was founded in late 2023 by former Congressman Brad Carson (President) and tech entrepreneur Eric Gastfriend (Executive Director). Our Team Our Mission Help U.S. policymakers develop a thoughtful governance framework for rapidly advancing technologies that protects the public from harm while continuing to foster innovation. Our Policy Priorities Fighting for the Public Interest We seek to address a broad range of policy issues raised by AI, including current harms, national security concerns, and emerging risks. ARI is a bipartisan organization, working within and across political ideologies. To maintain our independence as an organization acting on behalf of the public interest, we do not take money from for-profit corporations or non-U.S. entities, and our organization is run fully independently of our donors. Our Principles ARI’s approach to AI policy stems from ten core principles: navigating uncertainty, building regulatory muscle, maintaining America’s lead, upskilling government, avoiding regulatory capture, moving quickly, regulating according to risk, conteract concentration, embracing transformation, and adopting AI in government responsibly. Learn More Our Supporters Americans for Responsible Innovation (a 501c4 nonprofit organization) is honored to be financially supported by our donors. ARI is supported by organizations including Inclusive Abundance Action, Omidyar Network, and Coefficient Giving and by individual donors including Brad Carson & Julie Carson, Eric Gastfriend & Caroline Mehl, and Steve Newman.
