Algorithmic Justice League
OrganizationNonprofit founded in 2016 by Dr. Joy Buolamwini to raise awareness about the impacts and harms of AI. Key programs include the Freedom Flyers Campaign investigating TSA facial recognition at 250+ US airports (produced "Comply To Fly?" report), and the CRASH Project (Community Reporting of Algorithmic System Harms, launched July 2020) which operates bug-bounty programs for algorithmic bias. Funded by Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Sloan Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and Mozilla Foundation. Buolamwini elected to NAACP Legal Defense Fund Board (2025). Primary intervention types: public awareness, advocacy, community-driven auditing.
