SoftBank Vision Fund acquired a $4 billion, 4.9% stake in NVIDIA, making it the fourth-largest shareholder. SoftBank later sold this position in January 2019 for approximately $3.3 billion profit.

Five-year contract worth up to $20M from DARPA under the Power Efficiency Revolution For Embedded Computing Technologies (PERFECT) program. NVIDIA's program, known as Project Osprey, researched low-power circuits and energy-efficient processor architectures.

Four-year $25M research contract from DARPA under the Ubiquitous High Performance Computing (UHPC) program. NVIDIA led a team including Cray Inc., Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and six top U.S. universities to develop exascale GPU computing systems.

NVIDIA went public on NASDAQ (ticker: NVDA) on January 22, 1999 at $12 per share, raising approximately $42 million. The IPO market cap was ~$600 million.

Follow-on venture funding from Sequoia Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures totaling $18M additional (on top of the initial $2M seed), bringing total VC raised to ~$20M. Also includes a $5M strategic investment from Sega in 1996 to fund development of the RIVA 128 GPU.
