Giving What We Can
Safety OrgFounded 2009 (17 years old)
Giving What We Can (GWWC) is an effective altruism organization co-founded by Toby Ord and Will MacAskill at Oxford University in 2009. Its central initiative is the Pledge, where members commit to donate at least 10% of their lifetime income to the most effective charities they can find. GWWC provides resources to help donors identify high-impact charities, primarily through referrals to organizations like GiveWell's top charities. The pledge community has grown to over 9,000 members who have collectively donated or pledged over $3 billion to effective charities. GWWC is now part of the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) organizational family and played a foundational role in establishing the effective altruism movement as an organized community.
